Albuquerque –
On July 27th, 2026, Albuquerque Police officers were dispatched to an Albertson’s store located at 4950 Montgomery Blvd NE in regards to a shoplifting and a person being punched. When officers arrived, they contacted a store employee at the Albertson’s, and she stated she tried to stop 35-year-old Darrel Lampkin from taking some lighters.
According to the criminal complaint, Lampkin took a pack of lighters and passed all points of sale for the unpaid items. The employee tried to stop him and that is when the battery to the employee happened.
Lampkin was located by officers nearby, but he decided to run from the police. Lampkin’s escape plans flamed out after APD officers apprehended him near a medical complex. While searching him after he was arrested, they found aluminum foil and a crystallized substance in his pockets. He told officers he “had picked it up” from the floor. Officers tested the substance and it came back as meth.
The criminal complaint does not indicate if the lighters were located or if he quickly used his free lighters to get one last meth session before jail.
Lampkin was charged with shoplifting under $250, possession of meth, battery, and resisting evading officers.
