NE Albuquerque –
On July 5th, 2022, around noon a citizen called police about a down and out person on the NW corner of Grove and Chico. When officers arrived they found a deceased person with obvious signs of life ending trauma.
A full violent crimes team was sent to the scene to investigate further.
Update***We went to the scene after it was cleared of all personnel and noticed APD did not take the dead persons personal effects for evidence nor safekeeping. The side walk had blood stains and smelled of human death. A bucket with the victims personal items, a hat, a lighter, and shoes were left behind where the person died.
A homicide victim’s personal items are left where he died and was found by a passerby. APD’s policy of personal items
We have never seen such disregard for a decedents property. The property was left behind as trash. We can only assume within minutes the property was stolen by someone in the area.
An acting supervisor M. Smith who we encountered on scene originally had boasted that the scene was his responsibility and that we must leave as to not contaminate the scene.
We see now that this acting supervisors actions were not to protect the integrity of the scene but to censor media access. The acting supervisor did not do his job and removed the secured integrity of the scene and cleared everyone away before all evidence and or personal effects were collected and tagged.
