Man Found Hanging in Wooded Area a Hoax, Man Named Died by Suicide in 2024

The Internet was taken by storm by a claim that a Black man was found hanging in a wooded area in Albuquerque, NM, in the last month or so. We received many messages that we needed to investigate this because the death sounded like a brutal homicide.

The man cited in the online claim was 28-year-old Jayvon Givan and people wanted justice for his death and some answers.

We reached out to the Office of the Medical Investigator(OMI), and they did confirm that Givan had indeed died. Our investigation found that the Albuquerque Police Department responded to a male hanging from a chain at a local brewery near the ABQ/Corrales border on September 17th, 2024. According to APD, there was no video footage of the area due to the building undergoing renovations.

APD did not find any evidence of foul play, and OMI confirmed the findings as a suicide.
