Around 1:30 AM, the Albuquerque Police Department received a call about a man breaking into an apartment unit located at 5324 San Mateo Blvd NE, at the Aya Apartments. It was indicated a person was shot multiple times.

Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded and he died at the scene.

It is unclear if the shooting was in self defense or if the tenant was shot by the intruder.

This is the 11th homicide for the month of March.

We will update the story when we learn more information.

UPDATE:

UPDATE 2:

APD officers are reportedly investigating this overnight fatal shooting as a possible justifiable homicide.

Authorities stated that “the preliminary investigation indicates the deceased man tried to force entry into the apartment of his ex-girlfriend following a domestic dispute. A friend of the woman intervened and shot the man.

This is the fourth justifiable shooting for the month of March.
