Man Shot in Apparent Road Rage Incident on Central Ave.

Albuquerque –

Today, at around 7:15PM, the Albuquerque Police Department received a call about a shots fired call and also a car crash near the intersection of Central Ave. and Elizabeth St NE. When APD arrived, they located a male in the driver seat of a mini-van with obvious signs of trauma from a gunshot and the post shooting car crash.

APD secured the scene for Albuquerque Fire Rescue and they responded quickly to remove the man from the driver seat of the crashed car to start medical treatment on him. While we were on scene, we saw the male was holding a piece of cloth to the back of his own head. We could see at least one bullet impact near the driver side fender of the minivan.

AFR and APD worked together to rush the man to an awaiting ambulance where he was quickly transported to UNMH in critical condition. A few APD officers saturated the area to try to locate the suspect. At this time it appears no suspect is in custody.

APD shut down east and westbound traffic between Central Ave. and Elizabeth St. NE while they investigate the scene.

We will update the story if more information becomes available.
