Downtown Distillery was the scene of a deadly bar fight on 1/8/2023
Witnesses told ABQ RAW that numerous people were inside the Downtown Distillery, located at 406 Central SW, when a fight broke out inside the bar. The fight spilled out into the front of the bar and that is where the man was stabbed to death. First aid was rendered by APD and Albuquerque Fire Rescue, but he died on scene.

On the weekends at night, APD completely shuts down motor vehicle traffic on Central and only allows pedestrians into the bars and nightclubs in the area. APD blocks vehicle traffic on Central to encourage walking access to downtown streets between 3rd Street to 5th Street.
The night crowd was mostly undeterred and could be seen looking down the street towards the dead man laying in front of the bar. Some bar patrons could be heard making comments about the scene. The sound of different genres of music filled the air as APD homicide detectives pieced together the case. As APD investigated late into the night, many bars and nightclubs began their “last call” which brought out many more people onto the streets to witness the violent scene in front of them.
ABQ RAW staff could see the victim had at least two stab wounds to his abdomen and the wall behind him had blood spatter on it. He appeared to be in his mid 20s to early 30s.
This is APD’s second homicide of 2023. BCSO is also investigating 2 suspicious deaths.
