Shooting Incident near UNM is being Investigated.

SE Albuquerque – According to Civilian PIO Gilbert Gallegos there was a shooting near UNM last night. He tells the media:

Officers in the Southeast Area Command were dispatched Sunday at 7:29 p.m. to a shooting in the area of 1808 Central Ave., S.E. Two juvenile males were injured by gunfire and transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening wounds.

Detectives spoke to one of the victims who said he and his friend were walking in an alley near the smoke shop at Central Ave. and University Blvd., S.E. when occupants of a black sedan fired gunshots at them. They were both struck.

Detectives also located a handgun in the area. One of the juveniles eventually admitted he was carrying the gun, but denied shooting. Detectives located bullet casings from two different types of firearms.

Detectives with APD’s Gun Violence Reduction Unit are investigating the incident.
