We are in receipt of an email from Mayor Keller to all city employees explaining that due to state and federal “decisions” that “Coming this month” ALL employees must be “fully vaccinated against COVID-19”.

It is unclear what will happen to the employment status of non vaccinated employees.

Hello and Happy New Year!

I hope that you and your loved ones had a safe and happy holiday. I’m so grateful for all the work you’ve put in throughout these unprecedented times, and look forward to continuing forward together as we take on the next leg of this journey toward making our city a better place. While it’s a new year full of new opportunities, it’s important to remember where we stand. The COVID-19 pandemic is still very much here. Our communities, our healthcare system, and our frontline workers are being deeply affected by the spread of the virus. It’s more important than ever to take measures to protect yourself and others such as wearing your mask, washing your hands, and getting vaccinated.

We appreciate the way our employees have stepped up to keep each other and our city safe by making it as easy as possible to get vaccinated. Coming this month, federal and state decisions will require all city employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. We’ve done everything within our control to protect our employees throughout the pandemic, and this is the next step we’re being required to take.

As we’ve seen throughout these times, city employees really are the glue that holds critical services and systems together that families across Albuquerque rely on. You’ve all worked so hard to make sure there was never a disruption, but no doubt staffing shortages have taken a toll. We’re proud of the benefits and support that we offer here at the City for our employees and their families, and are actively looking to grow our team in all areas so that we can continue to deliver for Albuquerque. We’re hiring for open positions across departments, with jobs to fit many different interests, backgrounds, and schedules. We hope you’ll encourage folks you know to explore open positions at cabq.gov/jobs and join the City!

Whether you’ve been with the City for decades, or just joined us last week, we’re lucky to have you on our side. Together, we’re breaking through long-standing barriers and laying a foundation for lasting change in our city. I believe in Albuquerque, and the promise that it holds. With continued hard work, when it’s time to hand the reigns of this journey off to the next generation, I know they’ll be starting far closer to the promise of Albuquerque than any have before. That keeps me going, and I thank you for going with me.

Sincerely,

Timothy M. Keller

Mayor
