Man’s Ninja Tactics Foiled by APD, Now Charged with Damaging Defenseless Power Pole

Albuquerque –

On February 24th, 2024, 57-year-old Paul Murrieta of Albuquerque was at a homeless encampment near 12th street and I-40. He decided to leave the encampment for an impromptu ninja practice session throwing knives and objects at a PNM power pole.

According to a criminal complaint, Murrieta was observed on surveillance cameras throwing knives and objects at a power pole by PNM. APD officers arrived on scene and observed from a distance that Murrieta was damaging the power pole. APD took him into custody without incident.

Officers found fentanyl pills, knives, and other objects in Murrieta’s possession. He was charged with criminal damage to property, possession of a controlled substance, and had 3 outstanding misdemeanor warrants from Grants, New Mexico.
