An annual college football bowl game called the New Mexico Bowl is happening on December 16th, 2023, in Albuquerque. It is pitting New Mexico State University, based in Las Cruces, NM, against Fresno State, based in Fresno, California. In sports lore, it is a tradition for the city Mayors to have friendly bets between them.
In a rare move, Mayor Tim Keller decided to lay claim to NMSU’s football program in a friendly bet with Mayor Jerry Dyer.
The two mayors decided to bet local goods for whoever wins the sportsball game on Saturday.
Las Cruces is nearly 223 miles away from the Duke City and according to a press release Mayor Keller will do the coin toss at the bowl game. It is unclear if the Governor will be there as a state representative to NMSU.
