APD detectives charged the mother of a 2-year-old who was fatally shot on Sunday at a Southeast Albuquerque apartment. The mother, 20-year-old Amillia Garcia, told detectives she was in another room when she heard a loud bang. She went into the living room and discovered her son with a gunshot wound. A handgun with an extended magazine was near his body.
Garcia said she picked up her son and carried him upstairs where other adults who lived in the apartment were staying. The woman who lives in the apartment told others to leave with the firearm used in the shooting. That woman, Angelica Lucero, then called 911 and said the boy was accidentally shot.

APD officers arrived shortly after 3 p.m. and attempted CPR on the child, but he died at the scene. Officers detained Garcia who also had a 1-year-old son with her at the apartment. He was not harmed. Officers also detained Lucero who later told them that she urged two people, including her boyfriend, Angel Cordova, to leave the apartment because he was on probation. Cordova later returned to the apartment with a bag that contained two firearms, including the gun believed to have been discharged.
During an interview with detectives, Garcia said the handgun belonged to her. She said she purchased it on the streets for protection because of prior domestic disputes with a family member. Investigators located several other guns inside the apartment during a search.
Detectives with APD’s Crimes Against Children Unit worked with the District Attorney’s Office to charge Garcia with Child Abuse resulting in death and tampering with evidence.
The other three people who were inside the apartment were also charged with crimes:
- Angelica Lucero (left), 24, was charged with tampering with evidence
- Angel Cordova (middle), 25, was charged with tampering with evidence and being a felon in possession of a firearm
- Angel Morales (right), 22, was charged with two counts of tampering with evidence
As always, anyone named is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Angel Cordova used his head and did the right thing despite his being at risk for more charges. This shows a morality and decency that no one else displayed. ( no, not a relative).
Angel, the 24yr old convicted felon, did the right thing by trying to hide evidence after a 2yr old took a round to the chest?
Super weird take but not surprising considering how Albuquerque is filled to the brim with some of the trashiest humans on earth.
Do not know how to read or listen so called mother ran upstairs to tell the others when Lucero woke her boyfriend up and told him something happened to leave cause he was on probation he wasn’t told the child was shot had he known he never would’ve left he would have stayed to help the baby he would’ve even ran with that baby in his arms to the nearest hospital if it meant he would get life saving help faster. Even though we all know it’s slime to none for an adult to survive gunshot to the chest at close range much less a 2yr old. And regardless of how feel and think 25yr old Cordova returned back to the scene bring back two of the guns even though he knew they would arrest him for a felony in possession of a firearm mind he didn’t have to go back he could just as easily called a lawyer had the return the guns he could of dumped them hell there is 100 things he could’ve done but he chose to return back to scene with two of the guns ultimately bringing about the felon in possession and violating his probation.

Isn’t it simply wonderful that there are so many guns available that even a baby can get their hands on one. And loaded and ready for shooting, too!
They’re likely lying about it. My 2 year old son can’t even lift one of my guns, and if it was loaded, it would be even less likely. It was probably a negligent discharge by one of the adults.

Amillia Garcia is a complete and utter thot. Leon didn’t deserve to die. She is so ghetto that she would refuse donations that she desperately needed because she would only dress her baby in Nike. Truly worthless. Her dad was the one she wanted to be protected against. So she was probably going to shoot her own father eventually, but honestly he would deserve it. He’s a violent sack of shit and I hope he reads this. His broke ass lives in a trailer in Valencia county. Whole family is ghetto beyond repair.

There should be a law for the sake of our innocent children that people like that shouldn’t be allowed to reproduce anymore or at all!!! So so so heartbreaking!!!
But people like that breed for a living. If she can knock out 4 or 5 kids with deadbeat sperm donors she can stay home all day and party with her homies. And if you deal drugs on the side it’s bonus time. Best to keep loaded guns at the ready in case the posse gets out of control.
