Albuquerque –

Around 4:35 PM, officers from the Albuquerque Police Department and firefighters from Albuquerque Fire Rescue were sent to I-40 eastbound near San Mateo for a multi-vehicle collision. According to multiple calling parties, one car was facing the wrong lanes of traffic, and three vehicles appeared to be involved.

It is unknown if there are any injuries.

NMDOT/NMROADS are advising drivers that, “Crash, I 40 eastbound at mile marker 162, (San Mateo).

Crash I-40 eastbound at San Mateo has the left lane closed at this time. Proceed with caution and expect delays.” Based on the DOT cameras, it does appear the right shoulder is also blocked.

UPDATE:

As of 5:33 PM, officers are still at the scene, waiting for wreckers or tow trucks to arrive and remove the crashed vehicles.
