On July 14, 2024, around 10:00 PM, a man was admitted to the University of New Mexico Hospital, and authorities were notified. The victim was reportedly in critical condition with multiple stab wounds. We reported this incident to you as it was actively unfolding.

Initial reports did not clearly state where the stabbing incident happened, possibly due to the victim’s condition, which prevented them from speaking to APD. However, officers started to canvas the area of the 1500 block of University Blvd. After searching the vicinity, the crime scene was located at 1501 Indian School Rd NE.

On Friday, August 23rd, we received an update from an APD official that the victim from this stabbing died from their wounds. Authorities identified the victim as Pedro Taborda Diaz Jr, he was 31. APD’s civilian public information officer, Gilbert Gallegos, did not confirm whether anyone was in custody for Mr. Diaz’s death. He provided no further details on the investigation.

For 2024, this is the 75th homicide for the Albuquerque Metro area.

  1. I wish the police would be more forthcoming about this incident. It would be interesting to know if this man was acting in self-defense or was in a fight with someone else. It would also be interesting to know if he was a citizen since our tax dollars probably paid for a month in the hospital trying to save his life.
