UNMPD and APD Investigates Shooting Near American Legion, Victim Showed Up to UNMH

On August 25, 2024 at 4:10 AM. Officers from the University of New Mexico Police Department (UNMPD) were dispatched to UNMH reference a male victim (non-student, staff or faculty) with a gunshot wound to his leg. The male victim refused to give any information about how he got shot, how it occurred, or where it happened.

UNMPD officers located a possible location of occurrence at 1201 Legion RD NE, which is near the American Legion 13 post. This location is off campus but near UNM property. APD is currently investigating the incident.

A few weeks ago nearly ten rounds were fired, and American Legion staff called in the incident. APD and UNMPD responded to that incident and did not find any suspects at that time.
