video from west side truck stop homicide scene
Detectives, CSI’s and an OMI representative start to gather evidence for the city’s latest homicide on the west side
NW Albuquerque – On December 1st, 2022, the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) responded to the scene of an unconscious male. When they arrived they found a male in his 20s with obvious signs of trauma and he was pronounced dead on scene.
The busy Flying J Truck Stop on 98th Street and Avalon Rd NW made numerous truck drivers slow down causing heavy traffic at the truck stop. The sounds of air brakes from semi trucks filled the air as truckers slowed and just stopped to look down the street at the scene. A taco truck playing loud upbeat Mexican music nearby served tourists and travelers like business as usual. We observed numerous patrons still enjoying the taco fare while discussing the murder scene a few feet from them.

One witness told us they saw some homeless people jump a man but the man was armed with a gun and he started shooting at the mob attacking him. One man fell to the ground and died and the others fled into the sparse open mesa behind the truck stop. Officers did have the shooter detained.
This is Albuquerque’s 163rd homicide of 2022. We will update the story if any charges are filed against the offender.
