Albuquerque –
On September 10, 2024, at around 8:45 PM, the Albuquerque Police responded to an aggravated assault and battery incident at 1400 Cardenas Dr SE. Initial reports mentioned a woman screaming, an unidentified man breaking into a nearby apartment, and a possible kidnapping. Before APD officers arrived, witnesses were able to “apprehend” the man. Dispatchers also called for additional officers to respond to help with potential crowd control.
When APD officers got to the scene, they took Mick Martin into custody. According to the victim, Martin broke into the apartment she shared with her relative. Martin then entered her room, grabbed her arm, and introduced himself as “Martin.” Frightened, she curled up into a ball and refused to go with him. Martin tried to pick her up, but neighbors entered the apartment and managed to separate the two and held Martin until police arrived.
Based on Martin’s booking photo and the information relayed by dispatchers to police, it appears the bystanders or neighbors roughed Martin up when they removed him from the apartment he broke into. The neighbors likely intervened after Martin attempted to assault and kidnap the female victim.
During the investigation, a neighbor provided video evidence of Martin kicking in the apartment door, entering, and closing it behind him. Multiple witnesses confirmed similar details.
Police have arrested and charged Mick Martin with kidnapping, breaking and entering, and battery on a non-household member. At the time of this posting, Saturday, September 14, Martin is still in jail at MDC.
Past Criminal History for 2024
Martin does have a criminal history including multiple past charges for DWI.
Martin faced charges in De Baca Magistrate Court for Driving While License Revoked – DWI Related, lack of registration evidence, and speeding (over by 26-30 mph) on February 5, 2024. Those charges are still pending on February 5, 2024. For this case, there was an active warrant out on Martin for failure to appear. From what we can determine, when authorities arrested and booked Martin into MDC on September 11th, they placed a hold to prevent his release.
On March 11, 2024, authorities charged him with Driving While License Revoked [Open Count] in Bernalillo County. However, in May 2024, those charges were apparently dismissed.
Authorities charged Martin with Driving While License Revoked – DWI Related in Cibola County on March 25 2024. Martin pled not guilty, and the prosecutor dismissed the charges through Nolle Prosequi on June 11, 2024.
On May 21, 2024, authorities from Cibola County charged him with Aggravated DWI (5th offense), Failure to Maintain Traffic Lane, Driving While License Revoked (DWI related), and Open Container (1st offense). Martin’s trial for these charges is set for September 23, 2024.
