War Zone, Albuquerque –

Officer Cadena went to contact the cretins when one of the males, later identified as Charles Elkins, got up and began running away from the officer. Officer Cadena chased after the fleeing male and tackled him on the sidewalk along busy Central Ave SE near San Mateo and was able to arrest him.

While a separate responding officer was searching Elkins’ person after he was arrested, the officer located drugs and paraphernalia on his person and nearby where the arrest occurred. The drugs were suspected to be fentanyl. Officer Cadena confirmed to the searching officer that Elkins had been trying to hide the drugs prior to her tackling him.

Officer Cadena could be seen on scene wincing in pain and it appeared she may have had a broken or severely injured foot due to the chase and arrest of Elkins.  Albuquerque Ambulance and AFR personnel could be seen attending to the injured officer.

Elkins was eventually booked for having a misdemeanor warrant for his arrest and the new eluding, and drug charges.
