When APD arrived on scene they located a victim with a gunshot wound who had already died on scene. According to APD, there is no offender information to report at this time. Homicide detectives have been called out to start an investigation.
The victim was an adult female and she was killed on the corner of the street. We saw massive head trauma, which indicted to us that she was shot or bludgeoned to the head. This area has numerous homeless encampments on Alcazar Blvd. SE, along the street and even on some private property.
This is the fifth time that homicide detectives have initiated a violent crimes investigation in approximately 48 hours. This brings the homicide total to 86 for the year.
The investigation is ongoing. APD homicide detectives are asking anyone with information about this homicide to contact them at 505-242-COPS (2677) or Crime Stoppers at 505-843-STOP (7867). You can also submit an anonymous tip online at www.crimestoppersnm.com or you can submit a tip anonymously at www.p3tips.com.

Our homicide totals always include both “non justified” homicides and “justifiable”(self defense) homicides. We report exactly as the OMI since they do not differentiate between the two. The police and the courts will ultimately decide if the killing was a crime. But the medical examiner determines the cause of death.
