Pedestrian Critically Injured in Crash; APD’s Motor Unit Launches Investigation

Albuquerque –

At around 1:50 PM on Sunday, December 22, the Albuquerque Police Department and Albuquerque Fire Rescue were called out to Spence Ave SE and Mulberry St SE for a motor vehicle crash involving a vehicle vs pedestrian.

The person struck was taken to a local area hospital by AFR. When taken to UNMH, the individual was listed in critical condition.

We have since learned that APD’s Motors Unit has been called out to investigate the crash because of the severity of the injuries incurred in the accident.

If we learn more about the pedestrian’s condition or this crash investigation, we will update you.

UPDATE:

Initial reports from radio traffic indicate that the pedestrian victim that was struck may have been dead when Albuquerque Fire Rescue (AFR) was first dispatched. However, officers from the Albuquerque Police Department (APD) were able to resuscitate the male. AFR’s Rescue 2 and Medic 3 were sent to the scene, but due to the severity of the victim’s condition, Rescue 2 performed a quick “scoop and go” with the male patient upon their arrival. While dispatch described the victim as an “unknown-aged male,” a source who lives in the area reported to us that the pedestrian was a juvenile.

We reached out to the authorities for confirmation on the victim’s age and an update on their condition, but are waiting for an update. Both AFR and APD have been especially busy this evening.

UPDATE 2:

APD released an update this morning which stated “The victim involved in this crash has been identified as a 10-year-old boy. He is still listed in critical condition at a local hospital.

APD officers learned through the preliminary investigation that the boy was riding an electric scooter when he was struck by the Dodge Ram truck. The driver of the vehicle stayed on scene to speak with detectives. At this time speed is not considered to be a factor.

Further updates will be given when available.”
