The New Mexico State Police are investigating a pedestrian vs Rail Runner incident. Just before 7 PM, the NMSP arrived to find a male that had been struck by the Rail Runner and was deceased at the scene.
The incident happened just north of US 550. NMSP Officer and PIO Amanda Richards stated that no lanes of traffic were affected by closures. Rail Runner service has been impacted and delayed due to the incident and the subsequent investigation. Commuters should anticipate delays and check with the Rail Runner website for more information, we have posted some details below.
On the Rail Runner Alert page it advises:
- February 3, 2026 6:32 PM – Train #519 SB is currently stopped due to trespasser strike. Bus Bridge will be provided. Updates to follow.
- Train #519 southbound passengers will be bussed to Sandoval US 550 Station due to incident on tracks. Expect major delays. Updates to follow.
- February 3, 2026 7:03 PM – Train #518 northbound passengers will be bussed to Sandoval US 550 Station due to incident on tracks. Expect major delays. Updates to follow.
- February 3, 2026 7:32 PM – Train #520 northbound will be delayed into Downtown Bernalillo Station due to incident on tracks. Expect major delays. Updates to follow.
- February 3, 2026 7:47 PM – Train #521 southbound will be delayed into Sandoval US 550 Station due to incident on tracks. Expect major delays. Updates to follow.
- February 3, 2026 7:47 PM – Train #521 SB is currently stopped at Kewa Station due to trespasser strike. Expect major delays. Updates to follow.
This is the second person to have been hit by the Rail Runner since Monday. On Monday afternoon around 1 PM, a pedestrian was hospitalized after being struck by a train near downtown Albuquerque.
