28-year-old Michael Lobato of Albuquerque

On June 19th, 2023, two vehicles were involved in a road rage incident in Albuquerque’s War Zone. Two vehicles were involved in the crash and the man who was rear ended fired at least four shots at the other driver. According to a criminal complaint, the car that hit the vehicle took off and found an Albuquerque Police officer conducting an unrelated traffic stop. The victim told the officer what happened. While the victim was giving a statement, the other driver 28-year-old Michael Lobato of Albuquerque pulled up to the scene and got out of his car. He told the officer “I only shot in the air”.
The first driver told police he began to hear gunshots and looked back to see that the other driver, Lobato, was pointing a firearm at his vehicle from the driver seat. The victim driver began to drive faster in an attempt to get away from the vehicle but continued to hear shots being fired in his direction.
While Lobato was detained by police he stated numerous times he “only fired two in the air”.
Lobato had two minor child seated in the back of his vehicle while he was engaged in the road rage shooting incident and an adult passenger also confirmed that Lobato fired the firearm in an attempt to get the other vehicle to stop. A black handgun of an unknown caliber was retrieved from Lobato’s vehicle.
Lobato will be booked on Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (x2), Child Abuse Not Resulting in GHB (x2) and Shooting At or From a Motor Vehicle.
