On September 21, 2024, at around 8:50 AM, Albuquerque Fire Rescue (AFR) responded to a vehicle accident with a trapped victim on I-40 Westbound (WB), just east of the Coors exit. Engine 4, Rescue 4, Squad 2, and Battalion Chief 1 responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, Rescue 4 confirmed a motor vehicle accident involving a rolled-over travel trailer and a van with two occupants trapped inside. Rescue 4 immediately began treating the passenger, while Engine 4 and Squad 2 initiated extrication procedures for the trapped driver. Due to the severity of the damage and intrusion into the driver’s compartment, the extrication process took approximately 30 minutes.
Rescue 4 transported one patient to the hospital, and Albuquerque Ambulance Service (AAS) transported the second. Both patients sustained significant injuries.
AFR was on scene until 10:30 AM. Two drivers that were stuck on I-40 WB told us that traffic was still at a standstill as of 11:20 AM.
However, at the time of this posting, we checked the NM DOT cams, and the traffic in the area does appear to be moving again.
Stay safe ABQ!

Not that texting and driving was related in this accident, but can it be posted on abqraw, every time an accident occurred due to texting, or using a cell phone, causing or resulting a collision or accident? I would like to compile some data, to hopefully save lives in the future.
Thank you,
