Second War Zone Homicide in Less Than 24 Hours

Albuquerque –

Homicide detectives from the Albuquerque Police Department are investigating a shooting death that occurred overnight in Southeast Albuquerque.

Officers responded to reports of gunfire near Ortiz Drive, south of Zuni Road S.E. Upon arrival, they saw a vehicle leaving the scene. The vehicle was stopped, and inside was a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Homicide detectives arrived at the scene shortly after 3:00 AM to begin their investigation.

This is the second homicide in the past 24 hours, the third homicide in the Albuquerque Metro area this week, and the 42nd homicide for 2024. Yesterday, May 18th, 2024, there was a homicide at Central and Indiana. An individual was shot, they were taken to UNMH, but they died from their wounds. On May 14th, 2024, a man was shot on Pennsylvania St and Mountain, he died on scene.
