Albuquerque –

Albuquerque Fire Rescue (AFR) responded to a structure fire early Wednesday morning, January 1, 2025, at approximately 2:02 a.m. The incident occurred at 9408 Luthy Circle NE, involving a single-story, single-family home.

Rescue 16 was first on the scene, arriving within two minutes to find heavy smoke and flames emanating from the residence. Crews confirmed a working fire and initiated an offensive strategy. Rescue 16 conducted a primary search while Engine 9 launched an interior attack to suppress the fire. Ladder 5 completed vertical ventilation attempting to prevent fire extension into the attic.

The blaze was brought under control within 20 minutes of the firefighters’ arrival. While there were no injuries reported among civilians or firefighters, one of the family’s dogs tragically perished.

The home is deemed uninhabitable, and AFR is working with the Red Cross to assist the three displaced residents. The homeowner was on-site during the incident.

AFR reminds the public to exercise caution when using space heaters during the colder months. Ensure they are placed away from flammable materials and always follow safety guidelines.

AFR stated that the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
