Albuquerque –
On July 8th, 2026, 40-year-old Justin Bookhardt learned not to interrupt a Subway sandwich artist in the creation of the perfect sub. The Albuquerque Police Department was dispatched to 5600 Gibson Blvd SE in reference to a Subway employee beating Bookhardt with a bat.
When officers arrived they found Bookhardt at a bus stop withering in pain and requesting an ambulance. An officer went to the Subway and interviewed employees about the incident after it was learned that is where it all started.
According to the criminal complaint, Bookhardt was on the side of the building pooping away in public instead of seeking out a city funded poop location. A Subway employee went outside to tell him to take his crappy business else where. Bookhardt pulled out scissors on the employee and “jabbed” in the direction of the employee. Another employee came out with a bat and then beat Bookhardt to defend his fellow employee. The defending employee told police he started swinging the bat and striking the poop and scissor wielding offender. Bookhardt eventually fled the scene while bleeding from head lacerations from his bat smacking.
Bookhardt was taken into custody at a nearby bus stop and transported to UNMH. Bookhardt became combative at the hospital and threw a used urinal jug into the hallway of the hospital. An officer tried escorting him to the bathroom for a more dignified bathroom break but Bookhardt instead crouched down and pooped in the hospital hallway and in the process directly on the officers uniform shoes. He also ripped hospital blankets up and tried to reach for the police officers equipment.
The criminal complaint does not say if the officer burned, threw away, or just re-shined his shoes after this incident. But we did learn, Bookhardt was placed into a restraint system to prevent anymore of his crappy attitude and was eventually taken to MDC where he was booked.
He was charged with aggravated assault with deadly weapon, battery on peace officer, and disordely conduct.
