Around 3:30PM, APD’s civilian PIO informed the media that the SWAT team had been activated to take an individual into custody in the area of 557 Tramway Blvd. NE. Officers were trying to arrest a man who had an active arrest warrant. The suspect was barricaded inside an Copper Ridge Apartment complex and he was refusing orders to surrender peacefully. The Copper Ridge Apartments have been the scene of many violent incidents, including at least one homicide.
We started hearing reports from witnesses that said APD’s SWAT team was calling out suspect by the name. This suspect was reportedly Emmanuel Galaviz Campos. The suspect was wanted for felony aggravated fleeing from a law enforcement officer.
Around 5:10pm, witnesses said an officer from APD’s SWAT** team engaged the suspect and shots were fired by the suspect and an unknown officer. Witnesses said they saw an officer being loaded into an ambulance and the ambulance left the scene. According to eyewitnesses, the officer appeared to be shot in the arm, the officer is expected to be okay. It is believed by a witness on scene that the suspect is dead.
This is the 4th officer involved shooting (OIS) across the state of New Mexico in the last 3 days.

At 6:06PM, the New Mexico State Police Posted on Twitter that they were involved in an officer involved shooting at 557 Tramway Blvd. NE.
Both NMSP and APD are advising the public to avoid the area.
