Teen Arrested After Fleeing Fatal Hit and Run Crash

Albuquerque –

According to an e-mail, the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred on the evening of August 3, 2026, at the intersection of Coors Boulevard SW and Sage Road SW.

At approximately 8:54 p.m., deputies responded to reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian before fleeing the scene. The adult male was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim’s identity is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.

Witnesses reported that the pedestrian was lawfully crossing within the crosswalk when a northbound vehicle on Coors Boulevard allegedly drove through a red light and struck the pedestrian before leaving the area.

Deputies quickly identified the suspect vehicle due to witnesses providing a good vehicle description and license plate, located it a short time later, and detained the driver nearby. The suspect, a 17-year-old juvenile, was taken into custody without incident.

“He was taken into custody at Blake’s near Coors and Arenal,” said Sergeant Connor Otero of BCSO.

Traffic investigators later located the involved vehicle, which displayed damage consistent with the collision. The vehicle was seized as evidence as the investigation continued.

The juvenile has been charged with Homicide by Vehicle and Leaving the Scene of an Accident Involving Great Bodily Harm or Death. Additional charges may be filed as the investigation progresses.
