Albuquerque –

Drivers are advised to avoid the area of San Pedro and Carmel as the Albuquerque Police Department are trying to apprehend an individual in a stolen vehicle. Police reportedly followed the person in the stolen vehicle from Central and San Mateo to this location. APD is actively working to persuade the individual to surrender peacefully.

APD has setup a perimeter around this vehicle and are advising businesses in the area, particularly on the east side of San Pedro and Carmel, to shelter in place.

If we learn more about this situation, we will update you.

UPDATE:

Both San Pedro north and sound-bound between Carmel and Holly have been closed.

APD is also blocking off traffic that’s turning from the Pan American Fwy onto eastbound Carmel.

UPDATE 2:

As of 3:05 PM, this situation is still ongoing, and southbound traffic on San Pedro is backed up to Corona (see picture below).

UPDATE 3:

Just before 3:35 PM, APD reportedly took the individual into custody. We will post an updated story as soon as we learn more about the suspect.

APD has requested a field investigator to seal the car and its contents to process it for evidence.

We reached out to Stone Face Tavern, one of the businesses affected by the police activity, and they have reopened.
