Albuquerque –

Albuquerque Fire Rescue is currently battling a two-alarm fire at 4816 McMahon Blvd NW, near McMahon Blvd NW and Golf Course Rd NW. The fire is reported to be at the Puerta del Sol Apartments. There are presently flames coming out of the roof of the complex. AFR was dispatched to this fire at approximately 3:38 PM.

The situation sounds critical, around 4:30 PM, AFR ordered all personnel to evacuate certain buildings. Firefighters are now attacking the blaze defensively. This means that firefighters are fighting the fire from a safe distance, typically from the outside of the structure. This approach is used when the situation is too dangerous to enter the building, such as when the fire is too intense or the structural integrity is compromised. The goal is to control and suppress the fire without putting firefighters at unnecessary risk. Additionally, AFR is working to prevent the fire from spreading to other apartments and to the surrounding brush.

New Mexico Gas and PNM were requested to this location to shut off utilities to the affected buildings.

At the time of this writing, we do not know of any injuries to residents or firefighters. AFR is asking people to avoid the area at this time.

If we learn more about this fire, the cause or any further details, we will update you.

UPDATE:

As of 6:21 PM, AFR is still on scene fighting this fire.
