Albuquerque Fire Rescue (AFR) responded to two separate structure fires in the city on Sunday morning.
The first incident occurred around 3:29 AM at 6706 Cochiti Rd SE. Crews arrived to find a single-story, single-family dwelling engulfed in flames. Engine 5 arrived on scene and reported a working fire. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze within 20 minutes, but the structure sustained significant damage. Two civilians were injured, with one being treated at the scene and the other transported to University of New Mexico Hospital. The displaced family will receive assistance from the Red Cross. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The second structure fire occurred later in the morning around 8:30 AM at 6020 Constitution Ave NE. Engine 13 deployed a hoseline for fire suppression, while Rescue 13 conducted a primary search. Ladder 5 forced entry into the structure, and Ladder 13 ascended to the roof for ventilation. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze, containing the damage to a hallway. One person was rescued and transported to a local hospital as a precautionary measure. No firefighters were injured. The cause of this fire is also under investigation by Albuquerque Fire Rescue investigators.
