On December 20, the United States Marshals Service – Southwest Investigative Fugitive Team (USMS-SWIFT) successfully located and apprehended Michael Lozano, aged 33. Lozano was sought by the Second Judicial District Court in Bernalillo County, NM, due to a bench warrant for violating the terms of his state probation, stemming from a conviction for Trafficking Controlled Substances – Methamphetamine.
During the arrest, as law enforcement closed in on him, Lozano attempted to flee on foot. While running, Lozano removed an item from his waistband and tried to conceal it under a vehicle. Subsequent examination revealed this item to be a loaded .38 revolver. Following a brief pursuit, Lozano was taken into custody, and a search-incident-to-arrest uncovered additional ammunition on his person.
This arrest on December 20, 2023, comes after a prior incident on November 29, 2023, when the USMS-SWIFT apprehended Lozano as he attempted to evade law enforcement in a local business on San Mateo Blvd NE. In that instance, a loaded .380 pistol was discovered in the bathroom where Lozano had hidden, along with several .380 bullets found in the vehicle, which he was the sole operator and occupant of.
Following both arrests, Lozano was booked into the Bernalillo County Metropolitan Detention Center. At last check, Lozano was still in custody at MDC.
The Southwest Investigative Fugitive Team, responsible for both arrests, comprised officers and agents from the New Mexico State Police, the New Mexico Department of Corrections-Probation & Parole, the Albuquerque Police Department, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and the U.S. Marshals Service.
