UPDATE: APD Finds Mother of Dead Baby Found in Dumpster, No Charges Filed Yet

Albuquerque –

The Albuquerque Police Department shared an update about the case of the dead baby found in a dumpster at 901 Rio Grande NW last week.

Officers in the Valley Area Command have located the mother of the deceased newborn baby.

Detectives suspected the woman was homeless and officers had been checking locations throughout the valley area command trying to find her.

A tip came in this morning to the Crimes Against Children Unit that resulted in a DNA warrant for the possible mother. Field officers located the woman and detained her for questioning.

The woman, who is 31, told detectives the baby was stillborn. The Office of the Medical Investigator is waiting for lab results before determining a cause of death. The OMI could not rule out that the baby was stillborn.

After consulting with the District Attorney’s Office, detectives are not able to charge the mother with a crime at this point.
