Albuquerque –
Around 3:10 PM on Saturday, April 26, officers were responding to a call near Bell and Arizona when they heard three gunshots coming from the west. The officers headed toward the sound of the gunfire, and as they got closer to the 610 block of San Pedro Dr SE, they heard two more shots and a man yelling. The officers were in an alley to the east of the location when they saw a man holding a silver and black firearm in his right hand, yelling at someone.
The officers told the man to drop the gun, and he complied, placing it next to him. They then ordered him to lie down on the ground, and he followed their instructions. The man was then handcuffed and identified as Albert Mack, who is also known as Albert Mark in court records. As officers placed him in handcuffs, Mack made threats, saying he would “merk that fool when he is released from jail.”
While securing the area, the officers saw an open door at 612 San Pedro Dr SE, which was later confirmed to be Mack’s residence. Concerned that there might be a victim inside, the officers performed a protective sweep of the house and found a rifle on the living room couch.
Another man involved in the incident was detained, but after identifying Mack as the main aggressor, the officers released the other man from handcuffs. The other man explained that Mack had become upset because he allowed someone to store belongings in his garage. This led to Mack yelling at him around 3:00 PM, and when the other man ignored him, Mack fired two shots at the ground near him. The other man, fearing for his life, yelled at Mack. Mack then took a few steps back and fired more rounds into the ground.
During the investigation, officers spoke with the other man’s girlfriend, who confirmed hearing Mack yelling and seeing him with a firearm. She didn’t get a clear look at the gun but backed away from the window when she realized what it was. Officers also found gunshot impacts at two rental homes on San Pedro Dr SE. One of the rounds struck a bedroom window at one property, with shrapnel stuck in the curtain. It seemed that the rounds fired by Mack may have ricocheted toward these homes.
The officers collected the gun Mack used, along with all the shell casings, for evidence. They also retrieved a rifle from Mack’s house after getting permission to search it. Officers read Mack his Miranda rights, and he chose to remain silent.
He was charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Shooting at an Occupied Dwelling, and Negligent Use of a Deadly Weapon. Mack was booked into MDC on April 26 at 9:04 PM.
