ALBUQUERQUE – We have noticed some homeless folks have been sporting some brand new bright yellow hoodies out within ABQ’s War Zone and other areas where the homeless like to gather in public.
Normally hoodies would not be worthy of any attention but these ones say in bold print “I LOVE TIM KELLER”. We wonder if there is some sort of mixed message to the message.
A screen printed hoodie is almost $25 a pop and this subverted campaign message was quite the spend and sent a cryptic message.
The day of the General Election, we went to homeless camps and asked people which candidate they were going to support. Many had no idea there was an election even happening for Mayor, one potential voter claimed a Mexican candidate came and hung out with them for a few days on the streets and they would probably vote for him if they remembered their name, and a few said they would vote for “Trump.” for mayor.
We reached out to Darren Whites campaign and they know nothing about the origins of the hoodies.
We also reached out to Tim Kellers campaign manager Neri Holguin and she told us: “To supporters of Darren White who think they are making a clever statement about Mayor Tim Keller Yes, those sweatshirts provide warmth. But using people experiencing homelessness as political props is disgraceful. No one’s hardship should be exploited for campaign stunts. Darren White should join us in condemning this immediately.”
