There is police activity in the 700 block of Burma Dr NE, near the intersection of Grand Ave and Juan Tabo Blvd. NE. According to neighbors that live in the area, officers from the Albuquerque Police Department responded to the area around 8 AM and have been attempting to negotiate with a man inside a residence, asking him to surrender peacefully. ABQRAW became aware of the situation around 9 AM and has been monitoring the incident.

Due to the ongoing situation, the Albuquerque Police Department’s SWAT team was activated and is currently on scene.

The man barricaded is known to police and has a long criminal history in New Mexico dating back to 1993. That history includes a pending case from October 27, 2025, involving battery against a household member, interference with communications, and abandonment and cruelty to children, as well as a separate case from December 18 for battery against a household member. There is a closed case from September 4, 2025 for Aggravated Battery Against a Household Member (Strangulation or Suffocation), False Imprisonment, Criminal Damage to the Property of a Household Member (Over $1,000), and Interference with Communications. In the September 2025 case, the prosecution dismissed the case because the witnesses failed to appear.
