Albuquerque –
20-year-old Anthony Ferraro of Albuquerque is facing his second DWI charge in a matter of months. This time Ferraro killed 1 person and seriously injured another person.
On June 1st, 2026, the New Mexico State Police were assisting the Albuquerque Police Department on an unrelated crash near the Frontage Road and 6th Street. During the crash investigation, a State Police officer heard a crash on 4th Street. The patrolman went to the crash and saw Ferraro outside the vehicle moving a can of Twisted Tea away from the scene.
While Ferraro was looking for the can, Albuquerque Fire Rescue was rendering aid to at least 2 passengers in separate vehicles. One of the victims died at UNMH. It is not known what the condition of the other victim is.
According to the criminal complaint, Albuquerque Fire Rescue came to the scene and had to extricate victims from the vehicles involved. Ferraro told State Police he did NOT have anything to drink and was not going to take field sobriety tests due to the crash. The State Police officer smelled alcohol on Ferraro’s person. He was transported back to the State Police office where he refused breath tests.
In December 2025, Ferraro was charged with DWI, negligent use of a deadly weapon, and failure to maintain lane by the Valencia County Sheriff’s Office. His case is pending the legal system.
In this case, he is charged with homicide by vehicle and DWI.
