Albuquerque police arrested a 30-year-old man in connection with the death of a man who was severely beaten earlier this month.

According to investigators, Darren DeHerrera is accused of striking Dwayne Burwell, 46, multiple times with a baseball bat on June 11. Burwell suffered extensive injuries, including multiple skull fractures, a traumatic brain injury, fractures to his shoulder blade and spine, and other serious injuries.
Burwell was transported to a local hospital, where he died June 14, three days after the assault.
DeHerrera was arrested Wednesday, and is charged with murder, police said. DeHerrera has a criminal history dating back to 2014.
