Career Felon Tries to Run Over Police then Tosses Gun During Car Pursuit

Albuquerque –

On September 24th, 2026, officers from the University Area Command were patrolling the area when they observed a man passed out in a vehicle near Yale and Gold. That man was identified as 36-year-old Trenton Harger of Albuquerque.

According to the criminal complaint, an officer approached the vehicle, indicated the engine was running and that Harger was passed out inside. The car was suspected in several incidents where individuals inside the vehicle pointed guns at citizens. Additional back up arrived and announcements were made for the male to exit the vehicle. Officers put spike strips around the vehicle. Harger did stick his hands out of the window at one point to indicate he was surrendering. He also began to reach in the center console area. But, his Cretin of society DNA felon ways finally kicked in and he took off from APD officers at a high rate of speed. An officer down the street was able to deploy stop sticks. Harger did swerve aggressively near the officer to avoid the spikes.

During the chase, a witness said Harger tossed out a black bag and a handgun, a loaded magazine also fell out near the intersection near University and Gold.

The chase ended on the 500 block of Spruce SE when Harger got out of the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers were able to take him into custody in a neighbor’s yard. The complaint goes on to say they found a second gun inside the vehicle.

Harger told officers he fled because he did not want to be caught with drugs and he said he did NOT try to hit the officer, but only swerved to avoid the spike stripes.

He went on to say the car was his and he had bought it from a friend. Later in the interview he wasn’t sure if the vehicle was even his.

Harger has felony convictions dating back to 2013 in New Mexico. He did serve time.

In this case, Harger is charged with a aggravated assault upon a peace officer, 2 counts of possession of firearms by a convicted felon, aggravated fleeing law enforcement, resisting an officer, reckless driving, and failure to stop at an intersection.
