At approximately 8:20 AM on Sunday, March 17, 2024, we reported to you that Jaremy Smith, the suspect responsible for the killing of NMSP Officer Justin Hare and a ‘person of interest’ in the killing of South Carolina paramedic Phonesia Machado-Fore, was in police custody.
According to unnamed sources, Smith has allegedly been shot by Bernalillo County deputies. We heard NMSP say they were following the ambulance to UNMH, but Smith’s condition is technically unknown at this time.
There is a heavy police presence near Anderson Hill and Unser. Drivers are advised to avoid the area.
UPDATE:
At 9:30 AM, the New Mexico State Police have confirmed our initial report, which stated that Jaremy Smith was taken into custody after a pursuit and an deputy-involved shooting with the Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office.
The Multi-Agency Task Force has initiated an investigation into the deputy-involved shooting.
BCSO also stated no deputies were hurt in the shooting.
