On Monday, June 10th at 3:53 AM, Albuquerque Fire Rescue (AFR) and Bernalillo County Fire Rescue (BCFR) units were dispatched to 5021 Edith NE for reports of a large outside fire at a recycling plant. Engine 6 arrived first and reported a large trash pile on fire adjacent to a structure.

In total, 11 units responded and were ultimately able to bring the blaze under control within 40 minutes with the aid of an aerial ladder truck and several large hand-lines flowing large amounts of water.

There was no damage to any structures. Furthermore, there were no injuries to civilians or firefighters reported. The cause is undetermined, however, recycling plant staff states that improper disposal of batteries is a frequent cause for these types of fires.
