APD Cop Accused of Driving Drunk in His Cop Car

Albuquerque – Around midnight on Sunday, a New Mexico State Police Officer arrested Albuquerque Police Department (APD) officer Jordan Hernandez. Hernandez was arrested for Aggravated DWI Driving While Under the Influence of Liquor and/or Drugs, Speeding (36 and Over), and Failure to Maintain Traffic Lane.

According to the criminal complaint, State Police officers spotted Hernandez’s patrol vehicle speeding on Bobby Foster Road near Mesa del Sol around midnight on Sunday. Following an investigation, Hernandez was arrested on a DWI charge.

Hernandez was reportedly driving 112mph in a 75mph zone. The NMSP Sergeant also stated that when he went to initiate the traffic stop on Hernandez, he (Hernandez) flashed the emergency lights on his APD patrol car apparently as way to wave him off. The APD fully marked police car stopped and a NMSP Sergeant asked Hernandez why he was speeding. The off duty Hernandez responded that “he was heading into work”.

Supervisors at APD received information about the incident and have began an internal investigation. Hernandez is currently assigned to the Foothills Area Command. APD has now placed Hernandez on administrative leave pending further review.

APD’s Chief Medina said about the charges: “It’s always disappointing to learn that one of our officers is accused of breaking the same laws they are sworn to enforce,” APD Chief Harold Medina said. “We will move forward with an internal investigation, while criminal charges are handled by the judicial system.”

  1. NMSP need to do speed enforcement on Santa Fe city police and county sheriff officers along I25 between Bernalillo and Santa Fe. These 2 of employees are using their take-home vehicles in aggressive manner along I 25 speed in the left-hand lane and tailgate to force cars in front of them to move over this happens all the time on any given day and it’s apparent that these officers are late for work so they’re abusing their power and tax payer owned vehicles to break the law and reduce their travel time. Due to the high cost of living in Santa Fe and Santa Fe county a lot of these officers live in Rio, Rancho and Bernalillo and commute daily.
