On February 22nd at 1:36 PM, Albuquerque Fire Rescue (AFR) responded to a call at 321 Grove St. SE regarding a structure fire at a small apartment building. Ladder 5 arrived within three minutes, confirming smoke presence and assuming command of the active fire scene.
Ladder 5 swiftly entered the apartment and discovered a burn victim near the doorway. Before AFR arrived, a neighbor had already begun the rescue operation, successfully moving the victim to the doorway. Ladder 5 then assigned Medic 12 and Rescue 5 to patient care and initiated rapid transport to UNMH.
AFR’s fire crews were able to bring the fire under control within 5 minutes. Damage to the structure was mostly contained to the room of origin.
No firefighter injuries were reported. However, one civilian sustained burns and was transported to UNMH. Their condition at the time of this posting is unknown.
AFR Fire Investigators are currently on-site to ascertain the fire’s cause and origin, though no definitive cause has been determined yet.
