Firefighters enter what was left of a two-story multifamily dwelling from an early morning fire
Albuquerque, NM –
On January 9, at around 8:34 am, Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a potential structure fire at the abandoned building located at 215 Wisconsin NE. When Rescue 5 (R5) arrived on the scene, they reported a two-story multifamily dwelling with an active fire on the second floor. The building was swiftly identified as fully involved. Due to the severity of the fire, the building collapsed within 20 minutes. The fire was successfully contained, preventing it from spreading to nearby buildings. A total of fifteen AFR apparatus units were deployed.
While on scene we observed the dwelling as a complete loss and numerous AFR vehicles were still on site. Around 9:30 AM, the remnants of the fire still emitted smoky wisps, visible even from Rio Rancho. As we stood on the scene, we noticed lingering debris smoldering, with AFR units diligently keeping watch for potential flare-ups in the piles.
No injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported. AFR Fire Investigators are present to determine the fire’s cause and origin; however, no conclusion has been reached at this time.
