Albuquerque –
Around 5:22 PM, Albuquerque Fire Rescue responded to a residential structure fire at 919 Galeras St NW. The reporting party stated that the second floor was fully engulfed and that multiple occupants were on a balcony awaiting rescue. Upon arrival, Engine 14 and Rescue 14 reported heavy smoke and active fire showing from the second story of the residence.
Fire crews initiated a rescue plan, deployed interior hand lines and secured a water supply.
Purportedly, Engine 14 successfully rescued three occupants from the balcony using a ladder. Three residents from the home were transported to a local area hospital. Their current condition remains unknown.
The fire was reportedly under control around 5:42 PM.
AFR’s Fire Investigator is being en route to help determine the cause. As of now, the cause is unknown.
We sent an email to AFR seeking more information about the fire, rescue specifics, and the conditions of individuals saved from the balcony. However, as of this publication, they do not have a summary of the firefighting efforts. If more information is released, we will updated you.
UPDATE:
AFR released additional information which stated:
Damage to the structure was significant, mostly on the second floor of the structure.
The three individuals rescued from this structure were transported to an area hospital for minor injuries.
There were a total of 7 individuals that will be displaced as a result of this incident. They reported they had family to stay with but Red Cross was activated to assist in any way they could.
