The man was later identified as 37-year-old Joseph Sena of Albuquerque. He headed south to a nearby business and tucked the knife into his waistband.

We were on scene when the Albuquerque Police Department made contact with Sena. He started walking toward the officers near the corner of San Mateo and Madeira Dr SE. He began to act in an aggressive manner and you could see the knife in his front waistband.

APD officers began advancing toward Sena and he turned northbound on Madeira with officers continual making demands for him to stop.

Sena turned toward officers and they swarmed him. They took him into custody without using non or lethal force. An APD officer reached into Sena’s waistband and pulled out a large machete. It was a miracle Sena’s nether regions were not cut from the blade during this whole encounter.

While searching him they found drug paraphernalia and drugs on him.

Sena was charged with unlawful carrying of deadly weapon, possession of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and disorderly conduct.

Sena has a violent and drug criminal record dating back to 2008.
