NW Albuquerque – We have learned new details about an infant death we reported about earlier today. APD has now said their Crimes Against Children Unit has charged and arrested a women in connection with the death of her 6-month-old child.

APD Detectives charged Gloria Tesillo, 30, with child abuse and possession of a controlled substance. Additional charges may still be added later.

An APD officer was flagged down this morning near the Days Inn, located at 6031 Iliff Rd., N.W., about a child that was believed to be deceased. The officer located the child inside a motel room and began rendering aid. The infant was unconscious and not breathing.

AFR arrived and took over life-saving measures. However, the infant was declared deceased.

The mother of the infant told police she was working at the Days Inn motel and left her twin infants in the care of her sister. But when officers started investigating, they found evidence of drug use throughout the motel room and within easy reach of the infants. They later reached relatives, including Tesillos’s mother and sister, and neither had ever been at the motel as Tesillo claimed.

Detectives obtained an arrest warrant and placed Tesillo under arrest. The surviving twin child was placed into the care of CYFD. Detectives are continuing to investigate this death.
