Statement from Violent Crimes Lieutenant Ray DelGreco
The Albuquerque Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred on Sunday morning near Morningside and Shepard NE. According to APD’s Lt. Ray DelGreco, the incident began around 8:30am when an unknown suspect began casing the neighborhood and subsequently broke into a home.
The suspect stole car keys and was apparently in the process of trying to steal the homeowner’s vehicle when the suspect was chased out of the home.
The suspect continued to case the neighborhood and the suspect broke into a second home. This is when the suspect was shot and killed by the second homeowner.
This is an ongoing investigation and we will update when more information is available.
This is ABQ’s 97th Homicide of 2022.
