Albuquerque –

At approximately 5:00 AM, officers from the Albuquerque Police Department were dispatched to the 12000 block of Fox Ln SE in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive adult male.

He was transported by emergency personnel to the University of New Mexico Hospital, where he later died.

APD’s Homicide Detectives are currently investigating a death.

More details will be provided as they are available.

UPDATE:

According to APD, Juan Portillo Mendez was arrested on Tuesday, August 12th, for the murder of Humberto Dominguez-Ortiz, 40.

APD also stated that there was a miscommunication when the homicide was reported out on Tuesday morning. On Tuesday morning, it was initially announced by APD that officers were dispatched to a disturbance at 5:00 AM, which APD later stated “was not accurate.

The victim, Dominguez-Ortiz was assaulted close to midnight on August 11, 2025, and officers found him just after midnight. He died about an hour later at UNMH.
