Albuquerque –

In a statement released from the Albuquerque Police Department’s PIO on January 24, 2025, it was announced that an APD officer was shot and injured overnight during an exchange of gunfire with a suspect at a Northeast Heights apartment complex. The call for service purportedly began as a possible home invasion call. APD has said that the officer is conscious and expected to be okay. The officer was shot in the leg. He has been transported to a nearby hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.

The suspect was shot and died at the scene of the apartment complex, which is located at 3958 Montgomery Blvd. NE, just east of Carlisle Blvd.

A resident of one of the apartments was also struck by gunfire. That individual was transported to the hospital. Their condition is presently unknown, but a neighbor in the complex reported the bystander appeared to have been struck in the arm.

The Multi-Agency Task Force is currently investigating the shooting incident.

APD stated that more information will be shared later. Chief Medina is currently at the hospital and will provide a briefing once he receives additional details from investigators.

As APD investigates, eastbound Montgomery is blocked off between Carlisle and Morningside. Just before 5:00AM, we observed that APD’s mobile crime scene RV was seen parked on Montgomery just east of Carlisle.

This is still a developing story, so as we learn more, we will update you.
