The Albuquerque Police Department’s Fatal Crash Team is currently investigating a fatal vehicle collision that happened overnight.
On January 22, 2025, at approximately 9:30 PM, a pedestrian was struck on southbound Tramway Blvd. NE between Candelaria Rd. and Comanche Rd. The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency medical personnel. According to information released from APD, the driver stopped at the intersection of Tramway Blvd. and Menaul Blvd. and called 911.
APD’s Fatal Team was dispatched to investigate, and the preliminary findings indicated that the vehicle was traveling at approximately 55-60 mph southbound on Tramway Blvd. in the far-right lane. The pedestrian had their back turned to traffic, and the driver was unable to swerve in time. Although the driver applied the brakes, the distance was too short to avoid impact, resulting in a collision with the pedestrian. A detective interviewed the driver at the scene, and the statement provided was consistent with evidence collected. According to information released by APD, the detective did not detect any signs of impairment in the driver.
At the time of this posting, APD did not release the name of the pedestrian.
